The last couple of weeks have been a little crazy. We have gone from hearing about a virus, Covid_19, in the news affecting China and then Italy, to a lockdown in our own country in an attempt to suppress the spread of this virus.
Conferences and meetings have been cancelled and work has been put on hold. There are opportunities to get involved in volunteering within your community to help and protect those who are vulnerable, some of which I have signed up for. My own family is shielded and I deliver food and medication to them as required.
We are hearing of the pressure the NHS is under, with rising numbers of patients and unfortunately increasing numbers of the dead. We want to be able to help and provide our own specialist skills to help in this situation, though at present we have been given no opportunity to assist. Although the death of patients is not something people want to talk about, it is the area on which we work. Myself and those who I work with in various organisations specialise in the implementation and running of high throughput mortuaries, the preparation of the dead and storage until burial, yet are not being utilised at present. We want to help on any way we can. In the meantime we are volunteering, doing what we can to help, but want people to know that we are here and we are ready when you want to make use of us.
